Hi,I just wanted to let the users of this site about my latest discovery.I own a Musicman 100rd,and i've tried many things to bring this thing to life ,and i've tried many types of 6L6's,5881's,ect.Now i have loaded kt88's in this thing and Wow!it made a huge difference.I read that the kt88 is kinda like a huge el-34,and i will say these tubes are huge ,tight fit i will say.and you do need to change the tube holders to those long spring retainers. Now,for purists who want thier musicman to sound like the fender it was meant to be,these might not be your cup of tea, they do british ,or marshall the sound abit, but i'm also using carvin bs-12s in a full stack to help this effect as well .well, just thought i'd drop a line and help anybody who also has had this endeavor .

I have an early 12ax7 sixtyfive head. I recently had t. loose put jj el 34's in it. I was curious about the kt 77's. Would anything have to be done to the amps internally it i swapped the tubes? I bet it would have to be re biased. I'm into experimenting with different tubes.

Mark,I really only can comment on what i know of the hibrid rd's,I will say though if I had the sixty five you have with what you have in it i'd be very happy ,the only reason I sought out the kt-88s is I was looking to capture a kind of el-34 tone in my amp,and I beleave it worked, now if i was gonna experiment with a amp like your it would probally be with the preamp tube, there have been many great differnt 12ax7 tubes out there, one of the best i've gotten lately is a jj ECC83s its really quiet and breaks up nicely, great harmonics ..ect.but jj makes a great tube ,so i'd say you are alright.ok,the lowdown on that kt-77 is it's more of a replacement for 6L6,5881..ect,so its current draw is abit high to just throw them in ,so yes i would say rebiasing is gonna be a must.good thing though is most musicman amps are running hot compared to its fender like counterparts

thanks. I'm really happy with the jj el 34's. I might experiment with the driver tube a bit.
