Cell Phone Killed My Amp!

So I laid my cell that was streaming local radio phone on top of my 100 RD and it just went kaput! Anybody ever heard of this happening? Coincidence? I have heard interference from cell phone before on other gear but nothing like this.

similarly...

I have a Carvin V3mc in addition to my MM RD112 50 and one day I held my cell phone close to the pickups on my Les Paul and the interference boogered at least one of the power tubes in the amp! The phone was ringing when it happened,i.e. active. It may be that the tubes(EL 84"s) were already going but, that seems unlikely as they were only about a year old and I hadn't been gigging them a lot. Maybe one of the electronic-wise guys could chime in on this as I'm still wondering what happened and whether the phone activity/proximity and the tube failure are/were related. Regardless, now, I always keep my phone in my shirt pocket and never hold it near the amp or guitar.
