Replacing Grill Cloth on MM 120B Head

I want to change the grill cloth from black to silver on a 120B bass head. Its a solid state head, do the whole guts of the amp need to come out or is this an easy replacement.

I have no ACTUAL idea for

I have no ACTUAL idea for certain but MOST head have screws showing from the back if you remove the back panel. These you can take out and remove the front. Not sure though as some FENDER amps have the front grill frame just held in with velcro. you' just have to look, unless somebody else has had one apart. I've never SEEN one! Mike.

Yes, it has to be taken apart

Hi Mike,

the 120B head cab is a short (as in top to bottom) version of the RD-50 head. The 120B guts would fit in the latter whereas the RD 50 (1650RD) chassis would not fit in the former - at least not with the power tubes in. But that's neither here nor there - my point is that you go about it the same way to change the grill cloth in both types of the cabinet:

1. Remove back panel
2. Remove chassis strap screws (the ones that go through the top of the amplifier and secures the amp chassis)
3. If present, unscrew power cord retainer clip
4. Slide amp chassis out the back
5. Undo screws holding front panel and carefully remove it
6. Remove badges. You can now replace the grill cloth

You could, I suppose, forego removing the amp chassis but it is a lot easier to work on the box with the chassis out of the way.

Cheers,
Lars Verholt
