Refer to thread under "Transformers" on this site, and under "After Market Transformers" to read how this guy Dave Lucas of handwoundtransformers.com has been ripping people off by taking their money up front and never delivering a THING and lying through his teeth about promised deliveries! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS GUY...HE'S BOGUS AND DISHONEST!

Go check out his sight now-he has a message about not taking any more orders until "caught up". Interesting. Mike

Yeah. He's probably packing his bags for a quick "exit stage left," with all the flak and threatend law suits, complaints to the State Atty. General, etc. I sent him a nice love note of what I was doing, too. If he has any sense (which is certainly debatable at this juncture of developements), he's not getting in any deeper. Too little, too late, methinks...and he's using "overworked with orders" as an excuse...but it doesn't wash...he doesn't respond to emails or answer direct questions. He could have just SAID he was swamped, and most people would have understood. But lying to us? Naw. He's jerking our chain again with this "too many orders" crap. He already told me and some others that he was "all caught up," so now he's not AGAIN? BS.

Postscript: I read on the AX84 site that he apparently owned some kind of custom stereos speaker kit company, and pulled this same scam until he had to shut it down. People never did get their speakers or money back. Same game, different skin.

Sorry to hear about all this... I guess it goes to illustrate that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably IS a scam!I was really hoping we had found a sympathetic and honorable supplier of MM replacement trannies.

The internet seems to be full of these jerks! I was recently ripped off on eBay for some electronic equipment with no recourse other than to help get the parties responsible banned from having an account. It is a sorry world we live in sometimes, and the "law" seems to be written by lawyers to protect the guilty.

As long as we have honest dialogs like this one we can all benefit. Thanks to John and all for not only following up by putting out the word too!

I'm not getting my hopes up here...but last week I sent yet another (presumably fruitless) email demanding a delivery date of the tranny or refund, and today I received a cryptic email which simply stated "REFUND WILL BE SENT THIS COMING WEEK." I'll let you know if that actually happens or if it's just more of his BS...Even if I DO receive a refund...he still lied to me on many occasions about the tranny being sent, coming back from UPS, being retested to be resent, ad nauseum. The bottom line is he never built the thing, ergo it was never shipped. He didn't have a prototype to use to wind from and I believe he's been scrambiling around all this time trying to find one...without luck. And now, as an interesting sidebar, he's also saying (on his website)that he's going to INCREASE the cost of his trannys because of escalating materials cost. I'll post as to whether I actually do get a FULL refund...we'll have to wait and see.

Postscript: I've been in contact with MojoTone.com...they were referred to me by Heyboer Transformers. MojoTone says they have a 3-65 tranny (new) made by Heyboer in stock and ready to ship for $75...not much more than El Rippo's. Talking to Heyboer, they have made replacement trannys for MusicMan amps for years and have designs on any they've made from originals so they can duplicate them. They have both the 3-65 and 5-75 models in their design records. MojoTone is a reseller of parts for amp restoration and hotrodding and seem to know what they're talking about when I contacted them.

Got my Mojotone/Heyboer tranny today...exactly 3 days from ordering it from them. So far so good. Haven't installed it yet, but looks fine and will post results after hooking it up. Score: Mojotone:1...Handwound:-100.

Swapped out the trannys with the new Heyboer from Mojotone. GAD! What a difference! Tighter, louder, cleaner and generally just crystalline! Definitely the right move...I'm a happy guy...my MM amp is back to factory spec and running hard and strong. Now if I could just get my $$ back from Hellwoundtransformers.com...the perfect ending. If you need a replacement tranny...I definitely recommend Mojotone.com and Andy Turner!

Well, miracles never cease! Yesterday, after much bugging of David Lucas at Handwound via email, I FINALLY got my refund for $69 in the mail. Now I have to check his bank and see if it's any good before depositing it... BTW, his website is virtually down...all that works is his contact link, all the others are zippo!

Well, i've been waiting for my transformer for the 112 sixty five for nearly a year - it started off being believable, but Mr Lucas has been stringing me a pile of excrement for the last couple of months. unfortunately i live in the U.K. so i don't know what i can do about getting my cash back? i'll wait a couple more weeks, and then off to Mojotone - hopefully they'll have something that i can use...

Good Luck. This has been a learning experience for all of us. This guy has polished the nob a lot and taken a lot. Hope you get it or the money. Mike.
