Trying to date a HD-130

I recently came into possession of an HD-130 Reverb and matching RH-212 cab. for the paltry sum of $250. Though the cab looks rough, both function perfectly.

The head is chassis 2275-130 with a serial # of B000860. Any idea how old this baby is? It has the 12ax7 phase splitter tube, so I know it's an earlier version. Also, I believe it currently has GT EL34's. Is there any appreciable difference in performance between EL34s and 6CA7s?

As for the cab, it's missing the grill, the Tolex is shredded, the original speakers have minor repairs, the wheels are gone and I can't find a nameplate anywhere. Anywhere I should look? Is this cab normally wired for 8 or 4 ohms? I noticed somebody added a ground strap between the speaker baskets on the front. Finally, this cab usually came with Eminence drivers, correct?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to treat this "beauty" right.

Judging from the Serial Number & the 12AX7 phase splitter tube, I would guess 1974 or early 1975 as a date on the head.

As far as the output tubes go, I think the 6CA7 tubes are a bit more aggressive than the EL34 but they both seem to work well in this circuit. Cheap EL34 types can self-destruct when used at the high power setting (700Vdc plate voltage), which was the case with the early Chinese EL34.

It seems that many of the MM speakers were made by Eminence, with the possible exception of the 10" low-power drivers made by CTS/Utah (as used in the 210-65 and 410-65 models) and the Electro-Voice EVMs used in the more expensive models.

Most of the MM cabinets were wired for 8 ohms.

Hi, Steve. I have a 2475-130 2x12 serial C003612 with no phase splitter 12ax7 tube. I need to replace the reverb tank. I know where to order it from, but I see there are different model numbers. Can you tell me what model # you have for your 3 spring accutronics tank, so I have an idea which one to order for mine. Thanks, Ron

I don't have an HD130 model with reverb. Theoretically, the closest match to the HD130 series would be the 65 series (65 Series takes a 4FB3A1B reverb tank) but I cannot say if this type would also work in an HD-130 (but I suspect it would).

Don't you have the original spring? The model number is stamped on it. When you say "replace" that implies there is a broken one in there!

I took the reverb tank out of my 130 chassis and put it in the 65 and no problems. Still have the old tank if you need any numbers off of it, mail me an I will get them. Mike.
