Hi All! Great site Steve, best resource on the web for MusicMan!

I am the proud new owner of a 212HD One Thirty that I happened across in a used store here in Nasville, TN.

It sounds FANTASTIC with my Les Paul and seems to be in amazingly good shape with (I believe) all original components/parts, including tubes. I noticed on the EL34, have "Made in Russia" on them, how cool! There is one tiny cigarette burn on the top, but otherwise there is hardly a spec of dust on it. The damn thing smells new!

Anyway, I am not an electronics guru by any stretch, and am trying to figure out if my amp has the 12AX7A tube. It looks as though from my schematic inside the chassis that it does. Where the schematic states it should be, there is a tube that is encased in a metal shield/tube.. is this the one???

Below are specifics and a link to pics of my new prize:

Looks like your amp has the 12AX7.

Just below the On/Off and Ground selector switches
the 'metal can' you mentioned covers the 12AX7.

The Russian EL-34's are not original.
My amp (transitional)came with Sylvania's.

I don't know what brand of 12AX7 MusicMan
may have installed when new.

On the speaker, 67 indicates that the mfgr is Emminence, -7821 is the speakers production date
- the 21th week of 1978.

Use it well!

Langley, thank you kindly for you response!

Emminence? prod '78 ?

Sounds like a strange combo, in that the 12AX7 is there, but has maybe had a tube job?? Further, that the speakers are manuf in '78, but the 12AX7 was only in 1974-1976 prod range?

Perhaps someone had previously done a retro-fit??

Again, thanks for you comments! Amp sounds so good! was headin' down to pick one when i saw your post......

I could be wrong, but I think that the tube phase inverters (12AX7) were replaced by the solid state driver's in '78.
Whether it was Jan '78 or Dec '78 leaves a
nice sized transitional time slot.

All I know for sure is that I have a 1979 410-65 that has no evidence of ever having a 12AX7 installed and the solid-state Phase Splitter board looks original. (It does have the plate covering the old 12AX7 hole, however.)

My 1974 410-65 has the tube circuit, of course!

It seems that the 1977-78 time frame is when the changeover started occuring in ernest, but it all didn't happen overnight or on the same day! It most likely was an ongoing process until all work in progress was pushed through.

I just got me a 410HD-130 and the speakers says A10-GHD 67-7707. So i think the speakers are made the sevent veek in 1977.
It has four 6CA7 and one 12AX7 and the original tubesticker says that to I havent checked the ampchasie yet but i will soon.
The model number is 2275-130EX
The serial number is B004846
And this site is great.

My 212HD130 is fitted with celestion G1265 15 ohm speakers. Are these standard,if not what are the original ones. Also it has a 12ax7,which would indicate 1974 to 1976.

Celestions are not stock. That amp, I think had alnico 12's in it with the MM decals on it. Celestions are great though! Your time frame should be about right though. Mike.

S/N's don't really help much with MM's. Does it have a 12ax7 PI tube? (a little tube to the left of the power tubes, in a metal shield). If so it's in that area of 74-76 or 7. If not, it's after that and it gets harder to get an exact date/
