Recently had my HD 150 head retubed with Winged C 6l6 tubes, along with new caps. My tech told me it benched out at 129 watts, not 150. He thought it was because of my tube choice. Does this sound right ?

First off, ALL amps are rated at a particular distortion rate. If it wacked out full tilt distortion and all at 129 watts, that's actually pretty good. First off, I can't imagine any more running one wide open! If it hit 129 at 5% dist, that's great. I personally don't think ANY musicman amp EVER really hit 150 watts with a quad of 6L6's or 6CA7's(EL34). Thta was back in the marketing days of "bigger is better" and they were all trying to one up everybody else. If it sounds good, play it. As for winged c tubes, tey are as good as any new production tubes on the market. Mike.

Thanks for the reply. The switch to winged c 6l6 tubes really seems to have made a big difference in eq, especially in the bass and treble contols. I can barely get either one beyond 3 before it's overkill. The middle eq seems to have taken on a bit of a different character also, it seems to take a jump in volume when turned up to 10.
