Hi everybody, after replacing the two power caps I thought it might be a good idea to swap all the electrolytic caps for new and fresh ones, I also want to replace the two 2uF electrolytic caps with "normal" film caps. I ran into the problem that some of the values are not available over here in Europe, but I think its always a good idea to stick with the original nominal values from the factory. It seems that I cant get 2uF and 400uF caps over here, only 2.2uF and 470uF. Also 150uF is not easy to get as an axial type. What I need is:
2 x 100uF/450v
1 x 2uF / 350v
1 x 10uF / 350v
2 x 150uF / 50v
2 x 400uF / 25v
5 x 20uF / 25v
1 x 2uF / 25v

Any suggestions where to get this values or can someone get the caps for me and send them over ? Naturally I will pay for everything beforehand.

Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend !

Hi Dirk Some of the caps you are looking for are not in a RD50, like the 450V/100 and the 25V/2.
I have seen them in the HD & RD amps. The 350V/10 I have never seen in a MM amp. The two, 2uF electrolytic caps, that you want to replace what is the Voltage on these tell me more.
The 350V/2 you will have to use the 350V/2.2
The 25V/2 you will have to use the 50V/2
I have every thing you need but the 350V/10, I can get it next time I get caps, it is available.
Send me a eMail Terry

In my opinion it's a waste of time and money. It is a good thing replacing old power caps (more than two: high and low voltage rectifying caps). In the case of low voltage you can use caps with a bigger value of capacitance than originals and, of course bigger value of voltage. For high voltage caps it's recommended use same values of capacitance (or very near values) - tubes are not opamps (but you can use higher maximum working voltages).
For the other el. caps just replace them if you have some audio or noise problems. Never had a problem with this philosophy.

Here is a quick opinion from a guy who knows very little about amp circuits, but digs MM Tone; unless you're after a certain mod, put the caps in that are supposed to be in. It can't cost that much for the handful of caps that he's talking about, even to ship to merry olde England. What, a few quid? 15 bob?

Try the link to the guys store at this site (and enjoy the site itself)

Just where I'd be coming from. Of course I don't know what that different European voltage does to the amp.

Good luck!
