Hello! I have an HD150R Head, a 412GS cab with one non-working speaker and a 212HD cab with two working speakers. My question is about how to use the jacks on the 412GS to daisy chain and get the best volume/ohm load. Since the jacks on the head are in series and the 412GS has two jacks on the back, would I be able to take one speaker from the 212HD, replace the non-working one in the 412GS with it (8 ohms running there), wire the remaining speaker in the 212 directly to the jack (8 ohms there...) run the 412GS to the main jack, and use the second jack to daisy to the 212 (now 112  and get a 4ohm load, then switching the head to 4ohm?Any help is appreciated! | ||

If I read you corrcetly, you are going to end up with two 8 ohm loads and you want to know if you can use the PARALLEL jacks in the cabinet to put the two cabinets in parallel. The answer is yes. Switch the amp to 4 ohms when you use it like this. And then use the 8 ohm tap if you just use the one. MIke. | ||

Thank you Mike! You are reading correctly. I just needed confirmation that the 412GS jacks were wired in parallel (which was originally so you could wire two of them together, correct?) and if wiring a speaker directly to the jack of the 212 would be ok and run as 8 ohm on it's own and 4ohms total with the GS. That's the cabinet with the two little silver cups that the jacks are in , right? They are in parallel. The only concern that I have is the amount of heat disipation pumping that amp through the one speaker. The amp will SEE the total impedence as 4 ohm but I'm not sure as to what extent the power disipation will even out. You are basically putting half of the power through each cabinet, but seriously, how loud are you going to be! If it were me, I'd just run the 4x12 cab and use the little cab for quiet jobs. | ||

Yep, it has the two silver cups. "but seriously, how loud are you going to be!" I am going up against an 8x10 Ampeg cabinet with a 1000 watt Hatke head that my bass player uses, so...loud Would the heat dissipation damage the amp or the one twelve speaker? Also, I am a little confused as to what you mean about putting half of the power through each cabinet. Are you meaning that half of the amps power would be going to the four speakers in the GS and then half would be going to the one in the small cab? My two cents: Just run the 4 x 12 and forget about adding the remaining single 12. When hooking it up like you suggest, you would get half the power dissapated in the 4 x 12 and half in the single 12. Thus, each speaker in the 4 x 12 will only get 1/8 of the available power. You'd get more bang for the buck by driving the 4 x 12 with more power. The amp won't care either way. Cheers, Lars Verholt | ||

Exactly what Lars said. Like I said, the power disipation is soread over two cabinets. At full throttle(which is scary!), 1/2 to each cabinet. So if the speaker in the 1x12 is only a 25 watt speaker, it might not last long. Lars and I both agree-4x12 and use the 1x12 for a small gig. Mike | ||

I think the guys are right. My outside or "loud" set up is a Music Man HD130 Reverb head pushing two Carvin 2x12 speaker cabinets. (I like using two separate cabs cause they're easier to lug around) Anyway, lots of power, plenty of head room. And at times, I find myself just using the 65watt or low power setting and getting away with it. But that's just me.. Good Luck, Dave. |
