Hi fellow Music Man Amps owners!

I just bought my 112 RD 100 secondhand (of course, lol) from my local drugdealer (eg. music store). The guy who sold it didn't like the sound, so he had traded it in for a new Fender DeVille. I bought it for 2000 NKr (app 200 $) which I think was a good deal. So when I brought it home and plugged in my Les Paul it was like Christmas just a little bit to early...
And I wasn't put down at first... Great headroom and great clean tone. But I felt something was missing. I had a matched pair of 6L6 that I always have since I have a few other valve/tube amps. So I switched the valves/tubes and I was strucked with a tone that was earthshaking
Then, to test it for an ever better headroom I plugged in a 4x12 1960 Marshall stack. And now we were talking MUSIC!!!
But then came the big disappointment. I started to check the installed speaker, and think it must have been a replacement. 'Cause the speaker was labelled CALVIN! So my big question to you is what should I choose to change it? I tested the Calvin on a couple of other amps, and that sound was awful. I know Music Man put EV speakers in on their upgraded combos. Can anyone tell me what they originally used. And what would eventually be an even better upgrade? (if possible)
Hope you can help me
I must also say that I'm glad the one who sold it didn't think og changing the 6L6's, and that there was such a junk speaker installed. Because when I'm through with all my small upgrades I know this amp will blow away the DeVille anytime

The original speaker was probably the standard Eminence that was built for them with their name on it. Don't really know for sur on the RD's but the earlier ones use them unless upgraded. Unless you go to a EVM, JBL or one of the Weber high power series, 100 watts is a lot to push though one cheap twelve. Are you sure it didn't say "Carvin"? Never heard of Calvin. I happen to like the Weber stuff because the people are great and so is the product. Go to their web sight-webervst.com and look around. THeir high power series is what you will probably need with that strong of a combo. I use the California's in my 2-10 65 and love them Mike.

the best thing i've found for those high powered 1x12 combos is the EMINENCE legend v12. it has 120 watt handling, and the projection is UNREAL. the mid ranges absolutely SCREAM, and even in the 1x12 situation the speaker will give you a nice full low end. www.avatarspeakers.com is a good, solid mailorder place that sells them individually at a very reasonable price.
