In order to make my MM HD410 sound really clean when using the bridge pickup on my Telecaster and using a wah-wah, I have to keep the preamp volume pot on not much higher than 1. In "normal" conditions when using a softer sound from my guitar it stays clean up until 4-5. Is this normal, or should there be more headroom?

A troubleshooting Method.

Remove the wah-pedal. Use your settings, and
Master vol on 10. Reverb / trem off and zeroed.
Still getting distortion at Gain > 1?
No: R/R pedal.

Try switching cables.
Still getting distortion at Gain > 1?
No: R/R cables.

Try switching guitars.
Still getting distortion at Gain > 1?
No: It's a guitar problem.

Set tone: Treble(6), Mid(4), Bass(3).
Still getting distortion at Gain > 1?
No: Use the above tone settings.

Re-do last test using other channel,
then re-do again using input # 2.

Distortion audible at all speakers?
No: Isolate suspect speakers.

If still getting distortion at Gain > 1,
it's time to see your neighborhood amp tech.

Hope this helps.
