Does anyone know where I can get some Potentiometer cleaner for scratchy volume pots? Some online electronic company would love to be linked to this place if they had the correct replacement parts for Musicman tune-ups, indorsed... I'd like to change some of these old caps... | ||

I got some there but it was kinda "greasy." I had some at an electronic place I worked (years ago) that was way more "dry" in comparison. I think it may have contained freon or something. Freon is illegal in spray cleaners now, I believe. | ||

While "Tuner Cleaner" works fine for potentiometers, it does tend to remain greasy because of the built-in lubricants it leaves behind. Unless your pots NEED lubrication you would probably prefer not gunk them up anymore than necessary. I use DeOxit D5 (spray) from Caig Labs. Their original formulation (Cramolin Red) has been on the market for over 20 years and I have used it religiously for all sorts of contact problems (pots, switches, jacks, plugs, etc.). The product breaks through contact surface oxidation and leaves a treatment behind to retard new oxidation. DeOxit sprays wet and leaves a dry contact treatment behind. The wet "carrier" evaporates so the residue isn't greasy like a tuner cleaner. It is more expensive than tuner cleaner, but you use it VERY sparingly as a little goes a long way and lasts a long time. Highly Recommended! You can get from Lord Valve (NBS Electronics) or MCM Electronics on the web. It is carried by most every serious audio and electronics supplier so it isn't hard to find. | ||
