Hi, Thought I was losing clean headroom on my MM, so got an amptech to fit new (expensive)tubes. Sounds the same to me. Is there someone in the UK who knows these amps, who can verify that the amp is delivering the full output? It's an RP112 and says on the chassis 100 watts RMS - is this possible from just two 6L6's? Thanks.

Well, the output is as much marketing as anything. However, Music Man do get a lot of power from their design with so much voltage, 700 compared to others amps that have maybe 450 on the plates of the tubes. With an older amp, if you think it's starting to sound a little loose, maybe getting a bit noisy? Generally, the power filter caps need to be replaced along with all of the electro caps. They go bad after while and replacing is usually noticiable. Even if they are not bad, it's agood preventative thing after 15 years or so. Use good replacements however, such as sprague. Any tech should be able to do a cap job, it's pretty standard. Good Luck.

One more thought concerning the power rating, remember it's not only the power tubes that determine but also their relationship with the output transformer. Transformers can step voltage, so while the 6l6 are max at 30 watts each, and more typically operate at 70% or 20ish watts, I would not be surprised if the voltage out of the back of the amp is greater than what you might expect based on two 6l6 tubes. Music Man amps have very robust transformers, which is much of the music man sound, imho. Hope this helps.
