I've been buying and trying several model of Music Man amps over the last few years and have very different sound qualities over several different models. The best sounding one I have is an HD130 head with an 12AX7 and KT77's instead of EL34s. The second best sounding on is an RD50 with an 12AX7 . I tried some RD112 65 watters without the 12AX7 with mixed results. What are your experiences with different models? http://www.xcountry.biz | ||

Never tried one with kt's but the 12ax7 versions are the better sounding amps, IMO. THe RD's are close behind. THe one's with the first generation SS driver always sounded phony and brittle to ME but what the hell do I know. That SS driver just seems to add a certain chinky overtoan that I don't like. I really like the 65 with the 12ax7 and a 15" speaker. My 65 seems to have very little bass response so that seems to help. |
