Hey everybody, I know this doesn't really fall under "footswitches," but I think it's as close as I'll get here.

I am thinking about building my first DIY effects box, and am considering a ZVEX Super Hard On clone (http://zvex.com/hardon.html). Mostly because it looks pretty simple and cheap. I don't love the MusicMan's own preamp overdrive though, and am wondering if a simple one-knob boost is going to be pretty much the same as cranking the channel volume. Anybody use a single knob boost with their MM? Whaddya think?

Never built any zvex clones but I'd be interested in seeing a schem. The MM's distortion side doesn't do it for me either but I always run stuff clean and pedal distort anyway. Mostly use my modded BD-2's and a couple of hot rodded ds-1's occasionally. Let me know if you have a schem for that. MIke.

There it is. I have a buddy who is pretty handy with this kind of thing. I think I'll buy the parts for two and we'll get together and do the build at the same time.

I have another friend that plays an HD 130 with a BD-2, and it sounds super great, so I've thought about that too. They're usually around pretty affordable, and I've even seen some Keely-modded ones on my local Craigslist. Mostly I want to try this build for the experience, but I don't want to make something I can't use either.

What do you change in your blues driver? Just curious if I get my hands on one what I might want to change in it.

Anyway, there's the schematic if you'd like to check it out.

Mostlt, what I change in bd2's are the clipping diodes, to some combination of LED's and then maybe a gernaniun and then do some wiggling in the front end to allow more bass and lo mids in so they don't sound so squaky. Let me know and I'll try to fing the record I kept of mine what I changed. Mike
