Is this basically like my 210 hd except like running it on half power and with one speaker? also can i convert to 2 12's or 2 10's. how many ohm would this 12" be (8?) what would be the recommended ext cab for this - a single 15" or 12" i would presume and how many ohms. i wuld like a 70's ext cab to suit the combo, not the later black badged, however i cannot find either in a 1 12" on the models chart. Are they a nice sounding amp, i play a 210 hd usually and wanting stereo. help! | ||

Don't know wher you found a 1-12. I always wanted one of those! It should be the same as your 2-10 if they both are PI type or both SS driver type and theybothhave 6CA7'EL34 tubes. The speaker should be marked but if not, a simple ohmmeter test will reveal the truth. An 8ohm impedance speaker will read around 6 ohgms on the resistance and a 4 ohm will read 2.5-3 or so. nah man i would have for 680 i thought no one was going to bid for it because it was pick up only it went for 720 and i really didnt want to go over 700 especially for 1 12", 65watts and a ss driver. i only wanted for stereo MM! so yeah. catcha. | ||

I own both a 112-65 and a 210-65. The 112 model has the PI tube, while the 210 does not. The 112 speaker is 8 ohms (rear toggle switch set accordingly) and the 210 runs at 4 ohms (also toggle set accordingly). Do I gather from your comments that the 112-65 is fairly rare? I certainly have not noticed a lot of them out there either from owner comments or on ebay. I bought mine in fairly sad shape and have restored it back to factory over 5 years...I just replaced the OT with a Mojotone/Heyboer 3-65, which is to schematic specs, and it LIVES!! So...is this model a rare beast? I've noticed quite a few owners of 65-210's over the years. | ||

The 1-12 isn't rare but you have to realize the mind set in the 70's-bigger is better. THe most often sold at our store in the 70's was the 2-12 130 that went up against the twin. Power was the thing back then. Marshall 100 watters, twins, you name it. The little amps were considered "practice amps" when I was in the business. Damn, we were stupid. I would like to have another 65 watt tube PI head again. I stupidly got rid of mine. I love my 2-10 but even it's getting heavy! Mike. | ||

Yeah, I prefer the 112 over the 210 for weight (the 112 is about 10 lbs lighter!), plus I like the additional "bottom" the 112 has for my jazz and light club work. For LOUD and cutting-through, the 210 has it hands down. So, Michael,have your run across many other 112-65 owners over the years? I haven't...most are 210 owners. Hence my question as to whether the 112 model is scarce today? I understand about "bigger is better" back then. When I was young (before the flood), I actually wanted a Dual Showman to lug around! Sheesh. More brawn than brains, then, ya' know? | ||

By the way, Michael...what is the best of these two tubes to run as the PI...I have both: NOS Mullard 12Ax7A, or Sovtek 12AX7LP (long plate)? Does this tube effect the tonality of the amp to any great significance? You'd be the guy to know...! |
