hey there, i've wanted a hd 130 for a long time, and a 65 watt of the same era has come up cheap, what i want to know is - do these sound exactly the same as the 130's (when they are on half power), or does the transformer affect the tone of the 65? i have a 130 already. So do i wait for a 130, or do i buy a cheaper 65?

Personally, I don't think there is 2c's dif in the two amps. I have the 65 now and have had 130's(Oh, I still do have one of them!) and they sound the same. They actually aren't that much more powerful anyway as the sound levels themselves are very close between the 65 and `130. Get the 65. Mike.

It's clean but so is the 65. I really don't notice THAT much dif but the 130 may have a few db more top end. If you want EXTREMELY clean, you'll probably have to go Twin.

Silverface is the cleanest and the ultra linear twins are so clean that SOME people don't like them. I use an ultra and love it. You could get a linear bassman head and do the same thing. Mike.

The Twin as a head is called Dual Showman.

If it's built after 1978 and you look on the back and it says 135 watts, it's an ultra linear twin. These are as clean as it gets. Don't really even know if they made a dual showman in a linear version but if they did, it WOULD be the same. Wish to hell I had one because I'm hauling My Twin w/factory JBL's in a flight case and it weighs a ton!
