Hi from france everybody,
two questions :
- is bias necessary after changing 6L6 on 115RP ?
- it's difficult here to find Svetlana 6L6 :
my local dealer says that factory is out of
stock...do you have the same problem in USA ?
(France, land of wine, but not land of
tubes )
Thanks in advance
Phil

I'm not sure about the Svetlana shortage, but I am aware of a name problem in the U.S. with the Svetlana brand. The old U.S. distributor trademarked the Svetlana brand or logo so the new distributor uses the "winged C" logo and points out the these tubes are made in the same plant as Svetlana. This is a way to get around the problem without people misunderstanding that these really ARE Svetlana Tubes!

If you put in "graded" tubes and bias your amp to these, then you will not have to rebias if you replace the tubes with the same "grade" and manufacturer of tubes. This is the concept pioneered by Groove Tubes with their "hardness" scale.

Anytime you are unsure as to the grading or if you are changing distributor or manufacturer, it is a good idea to rebias the amp or at least CHECK the bias externally with a bias adaptor and a voltmeter (which is easy and safe).

Just as an info update, I am hearing about Tung Sol and Mullard rip off tubes that are re-branded junk being sold out THERE as new. These are NOT the real things so be careful. I think they are Sovtek(junk) that somebody bought the names and are trying to muck up the market. Mike.

Reputable tube dealers won't pawn these off on you... you are more likely to find these being stuffed into old boxes and sold on eBay by people wanting to make a quick buck from the unknowing.

Thanks for the heads-up!
