I had a thought. One of my hobbies is building plastic model aircraft. This introduced me to the process of resin casting. This could be applied to making replica badges.

1. Borrow originals of what you want to copy.

2. Make a silicone rubber mold of the original.

3. Make cast resin copies.

4. Paint & finish the copies to look like the originals.

This is a simplistic breakdown, but resin casting's only problem is that it can crack if exposed to too much stress. Certain resins (like Polyester resin... foul smelling stuff!) are really tough, other more benign modeling resins are brittle.

The tougher the resin, the more likely it is you will tear or destroy the mold or at least limit the number of copies that particular mold will successfully make.

It is either this or sand-casting aluminum copies (which don't always look very good and have a high rework factor associated with them.

Resin copies look almost EXACTLY like the originals with little clean-up and repair if done well.

Steve

that would work for me... i didn't really expect to find anyone willing to give their logo plates up because i've seen them go for close to $100 on ebay, but a plastic copy would be more than an exceptable substitute. if you saw the cabinet this guy made for me, you'd understand why i'm trying to get logo plates for it. he made a repro cabinet for a 65 chassis i had and if i could find the rubber feet for the bottom, there is no way anyone could tell the original from the copy except for the paper work inside about the tubes.
thanks Steve, now i have another project to explore.

There's a silver badge for a 210-130 up for sale on eBay, if I remember the model correctly. It had a $12 bid on it, and it was an original, not a re-cast. Just thought you'd liketo know. I searched under "Music Man Amps" when I found it.

I've got the badges from a 210-65 and a 412-GS available to me. I don't have a whole lot of free time to be casting resin copies, but if I can find someone reliable and trustworthy, I'd be willing to loan mine out to have copies made. I wouldnt mind having a backup or two, and I'd like to get a good black-on-silver copy for my other 412-GS, which currently has one of the silver-on-black badges that I'm not terribly fond of.

My email is KilledByAlbany@hotmail.com, feel free to get at me, and (hopefully!) I'll free up the time to get back to you sometime this year! :-)

From what's been written above, my chances for success may be "slim to none", but I'm currently looing for 2 Musicman badges, one for an HD 130, and one for an HD 150. I need the square MM badge that goes in the upper left hand corner of the front of the amp head, on eazh of these amps. To match the "vintage" of each one, ideally I want to find one "sliver" and one "black" badge. I apologize for my preference, but I am only looking for originals, not reproductions.

I have the model/type badges for each amp, so am not looking for those. Both amps are in excellent condition, but were already missing their MM badges when I aquired them. The amps look OK without the badges, but would look better with them. So I'm just putting my request out there, and maybe one or two will come my way. Thanks

I recently purchased an HD130 Reverb that someone had replaced the original grill cloth with black mesh & no badges. If someone has replica resin badges (or real ones), I'm interested in buying them. I love the amp & have it paired up with a one of those Rivera close-out deal, 4-10 ported cabs. Just turn master vol to 10 & let it rip!

Thanks,
Iron Mike

Thanks for your response, Bill. You said the large badges, correct? The one I'm looking for is the smaller one found on the sixtyfive heads. I would be happy with just the mm logo, the sixtyfive logo isn't too important. I have a 4x12 GS with the original badges on it and they are much larger. Do you mean you have the badges that were found on the combos and cabinets??
