Music Man stopped making the standard 65 series in late 1979, early 1980. The "Gain" knobs are only found on RD/RP models. The only 65 watt RD/RP models that were continued to be made past 1980 are the 112RD/RP-65 combos. It appears that this amp is a head (but maybe I'm wrong, can't tell from the poor description.)

His "preamp" problem could also be a bad output transformer or something else equally as ominous. You really can't tell what he has... it might be a good deal, it might be a boat anchor, hard to tell with the misinformation and supposition.
