ok,here goes,i read on here somewhere about changing the 2k mid pot for the 10k pot like in fenders, now the question ,would changing the bass pot to like whats in a fender or marshall also help ,i'm open to the treble as well but it sounds fine to me , this is on a 100 rd,fender uses a 250k pot for bass and treble, marshall uses a 250k pot for treble as well, but a 1meg for bass and a 25k for mids, also would the caps have to be changed as well?

Hi Bill, I have used 25k audio taper for the mid pot, but 10k seems to work best here, it gets to where if the mid pot is set above 1/2 the bass pot becomes inactive, since the signal is pushed above the bass threshold. I would not change the 25k bass pot, in theory the 25k is scaled down to work in this circuit, but acts like a 250k in a Fender circuit. Are you getting too much bass? You can change the bass cap from .22 uf to .15uf, .47uf etc to change the bass content. You can also change the input cap from .1uf (if thats whats in there) to .047uf etc. I do this all the time for customers. The more gain you use the less bass you want to keep the mud from building up. The lower the gain, you may want more bass for a fuller bodied tone. I hope this helps some. :^)

I suppose you could use a 100k audio taper pot for the bass to work like the Marshall/Bassman's response.

thanks ed,you described by bass situation exactly, clean the amp delivers tons of clean clear bass so much it also makes a killer bass head.but you are totally right also, when you describe what happens when you use the distortion .turning it up to 5 is as far as you can go before it starts sounding like a turd, some guys on here have said they just keep the bass knob rolled completely off.but i like bass.not mud

Has anyone else here changed the mid pot from 2k to 10k?

I love my musicman, but there is the occasional night where I just can't seem to dial it in right (like last night). To me it comes down to the mid control not quite acting like one would expect it. Anybody else notice this? I only use a clean sound.

Chuck changing that mid pot from 2k to 10k makes all the difference .As Ed said a 25k will work great too but it does get way into your bass pot tone, so you then have to replace that as well.So I think the 10k is the best way to go in your situation.
