I have a Music Man RD65 112, with what i expect is the original stock speaker (MM label on the magnet) that sounds a little tired. What's a little weird (to me) is that there's a wire running from speaker ground connection to a tag washer attached to one of the speaker frame mounting bolts... I'm planning on swapping out the speaker (trying a Tone Tubby), but what's up with this ground wire to the frame??

I've seen that many times but not on all models and just kind of hit and miss. I'm guessing it was some kind of static strap but really, there's no other reason-nobody else does it that I' am aware of.
