Rose Festival Air Show

In 1988, the first Portland Rose Festival Airshow featured the Blue Angels as headliners and attracted more than hundred thousand people over the two days it was held. It now draws in excess of one quarter of a million people over 3 days, and has become one of the 10 largest airshows in the western hemisphere. The show is held annually in early August at the Hillsboro Airport (Hillsboro is located about 15-20 miles west of Portland, Oregon).

The show usually features the Navy's Blue Angels, the USAF Thunderbirds, or Canada's Snow Birds as headliners. In 1993, a delegation from the former Soviet Union put on quite a display with 2 Su-27 fighters, adding some foreign flavor to the normally North American show recipe. A good mix of civilian airshow performers and military airpower displays from the US & Canada round out the typical show. The Warbird community (Confederate Air Force in particular) is always well represented, with both static displays and impressive flying.
