Evergreen Helicopters

In August 1997 I was returning from a week's vacation on the Oregon Coast when I noticed activity at Evergreen Helicopters at the McMinnville Airport (Yamhill County, Oregon).  This was a golden opportunity for me as McMinnville, weekdays, nice sunny weather and me rarely share the same space-time continuum!  I found the ramp and work hangar buzzing with activity, so I whipped it out (my 35mm) and snapped a couple of shots.

The ramp was awash with former United Nations helos and parts.  I guess Evergreen was able to score some fallout from the Bosnian conflict!  As the photos show, one Bell 212 (still in U.N. markings) was undergoing inspection and restoration while another (same colorscheme and radar equipment package but no longer in U.N. markings) flew a few fire suppression missions (or practice... I couldn't tell) with a water bucket.  In the work hangar, a huge Sikorsky S-64A SkyCrane was undergoing what looked like a full top-down restoration... it looked so clean EVERYWHERE  you could eat off it!  An enormous amount of effort in anyone's language!
